Traveling Tips: What to Bring on Your Road Trip

What’s one of the best things about going on a road trip? There’s no need to pack light. You can pack your car with as many things as you need. There are no baggage restrictions or weight limits, either. You can pack your car however you please without fear of stuffing your carry-on in the overhead bin or having your luggage end up in Acapulco while you’re in Anchorage. So get packing! Here are some things you should consider taking on your next road trip.

  1. Snacks, snacks, and more snacks. Food can get pretty expensive on the road. Packing plenty of snacks will ensure you’re always supplied. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop and check out the cute mom and pop diner by the side of the road; in fact, you totally should! However, keeping some snacks on hand will satisfy your cravings when there’s no restaurants in sight or you just don’t feel like stopping.
  2. A loaded cooler. They make coolers that plug into your car now, so there’s no need to stop for ice. Stock it with drinks, but be prepared to make frequent bathroom stops.
  3. Podcasts. Yes, podcasts. If you’re not familiar, podcasts are audio programming that can be downloaded right onto your iPod or onto a CD. You’ll be surprised how quickly the time flies when you’re actively listening to something you enjoy. They make podcasts for just about any interest, from fishing to books to music to food. Give it a try.
  4. Audio books. Always wanted to read Jane Eyre or Charles Dickens but never had the patience or time? You’ve got plenty of time on a road trip. You’ll find that the classics can be a lot easier to stomach when someone is reading to you. Extra bonus? You can fast forward through the boring parts. Old adventure books like Phantom of the Opera are great choices, too.
